That's not a surprise, since he hails from Pittsburgh. Weber is now starting his fourth season with Windsor, in the OHL. His game is a rather simple one, play tough defense in your own zone and keep fires from breaking out by the opposition. Mike particularly likes playing the game in his own zone and likes to punish the opposition in front of the net.
Weber isn't a plodding defenseman though, he's pretty good on his skates. He was a defense partner with Mitch Maunu, a 2004 draftee. Mike might be the kind of defenseman that the Sabres would need down the road. Buffalo could use some aggressiveness in its own end, and that seems to be Weber's modus operandi.
Weber was signed by the Sabres to an entry-level (3 years) contract on August 15th. Had a short stint with the Sabres and certainly didn't disappoint. Has been an asset for the Amerks this year. Recalled to the Sabres in the second half of the year, Weber continued his strong play and was not a detriment in the Sabres' lineup. Should be a candidate for a regular job on the Buffalo blueline in 2008-09. |
